WELCOME TO OUR NECK OF THE WOODS
Updated: Oct 14
Well now, pull up a chair.
Welcome to From Doc’s Porch.
This is where I’m going to keep y’all up to date on what’s actually happening around Doc Jaks and Emberhold. Not just the polished version after everything is finished. I’m talking about what’s happening behind the scenes while we’re building this thing.
And believe me, there have already been some ups and downs.
We spent a lot of time dealing with banks that, in the end, mostly wasted a lot of ours. But that chapter is behind us.
I was raised to never, ever give up.
If one door is locked, you go to the next one. If that one’s locked too, you keep going until you find the door that gets you to the next step.
So that’s what we’re doing.
We’re going to build Doc Jaks ourselves.
Maybe it takes a little longer. Maybe we have to be a little more creative. But when we get there, we won’t be owned by the banks.
We’ve been getting the licenses and permits in order. We finally found the right co-packer to make our Boss Soss Original and Sweet Bayou Soss until the day comes when we have our own facility.
The tent is ready. The signs are ready. The tables and banners are ready. We’re getting everything lined up to hit the farmers markets.
The Wooden Token is finished, edited and published. The Kindle edition and paperback are now available on Amazon.
The Doc Jaks website is probably about 98% finished, although I’m beginning to think it’ll never really be 100%. We’re always finding another corner to improve, another idea to add, or another piece of Emberhold to bring to life.
We’re also starting to get letters out to libraries and other places where we can talk about the book, the story behind it, and everything that has grown out of it.
And then there’s Outlaw 5150 Radio, our full-time online radio station, playing the music of Doc Jak & The Bayou Hellraisers.
The music is about the people, the attitudes, Swamp Life, the Smokehouse, Emberhold, family, friends, good times, hard times, and everything else that makes up this crazy little world we’re building.
And believe me, there are about a hundred other things brewing in the background.
So join us as we start this new journey.
One thing I’ve learned from experience is that it’s almost never what you expected it to be, no matter how many times you’ve done something like this before.
There will be surprises. There will be wrong turns. There will probably be a few doors slammed in our face.
But there will also be another door.
And we’ll keep opening them until we get where we’re going.
Stay tuned. Keep in touch. And hang on.
Welcome to our neck of the woods.
Doc
